Yahoo Toolbar

Yahoo Toolbar is a personalized browser toolbar that allows you to access bookmarks, links to Yahoo, and other features from any personal computer with the software installed and an Internet connection.

In order to use Yahoo Toolbar, you must download free software. You do not need to be a registered Yahoo user in order to use it; however, being a registered Yahoo user and logging in will allow you to customize the Yahoo Toolbar and use certain functionality only available to registered Yahoo users. We also give you an opportunity to separately install individual components of Toolbar.

Information Collection and Use Practices

  • Yahoo tracks clicks on the Yahoo Toolbar in order to improve the Toolbar. This information is not used to target advertising to users.
  • When you access a Yahoo page, that page may request information from you. The Toolbar does not collect or report information about your visits to any web sites unless you have given permission by enabling the Web Usage feature (see below).
  • Toolbar Apps
    • Toolbar apps are buttons that allow you to interact with web services provided by Yahoo and third-parties.
      • When you use a Toolbar app to access services provided by Yahoo, we treat your use of the application as if you were using that service in a web browser window.
      • When you use a Toolbar app to access third-party services such as Facebook, Yahoo does not track activities within the panel where you interact with that third-party. That third-party may collect information within the panel, as you interact with its services.
    • Bookmarks
      • You may use Yahoo Toolbar to save your bookmarks so you may access them from different devices. In which case, Yahoo would store bookmarks on your behalf on Yahoo servers.
      • Please visit our Bookmarks privacy page for more information about our privacy practices regarding the Yahoo Bookmarks service.
  • Yahoo Search Protection
    • Some versions of Yahoo Toolbar give you the option to install Yahoo Search Protection which is a program that will alert you if an attempt is made to change your default search engine from Yahoo. In some cases, Yahoo Search Protection will disable the product attempting to change your default setting. For more information on how this program treats your information, please visit the Yahoo Search Protection privacy module.
  • Web Usage
    • Some versions of Yahoo Toolbar allow you to share non-personally identifiable information with Yahoo about your device and the sites you visit to help Yahoo personalize your online experience and improve our products and services.
    • When enabled, Yahoo Toolbar will transmit the following information to Yahoo: complete web site addresses (URLs) from all the web sites you visit, referring and redirected URLs, unique Toolbar identifiers, product performance data like page load speed, a device ID, and other information provided by your browser including domain cookies.
    • All domain cookies are transmitted automatically to us by your browser when this feature is enabled. Yahoo selectively records only certain cookies with Yahoo Toolbar usage data and does not store cookies that contain or are associated with Yahoo account IDs.
    • The setting for this feature is independent of other privacy preferences you may have expressed to Yahoo or made in your browser. For example, this setting does not change the selections you made in the Yahoo Ad Interest Manager and, vice versa, selections you made in the Ad Interest Manager do not affect the collection of information through this feature
    • You can disable this feature at any time.
      • Click the gear icon on the right side of the Toolbar, then Edit Settings. The setting is at the very bottom of the page.
      • Directions are also found in the Yahoo Toolbar Help area.

Practices Regarding Your Ability to Update or Delete Information

  • You may edit the Toolbar settings by clicking the gear icon on the right side of the Toolbar, then Edit Settings.
  • By default, the Toolbar settings are stored on the computer where the Toolbar is installed. You may choose to store the settings in your Yahoo account. In which case, they will be used by Toolbar when you log in on another computer.

How to Uninstall

  • You can always uninstall Yahoo Toolbar if you no longer wish to use it. Uninstalling Toolbar does not affect your Yahoo account and will not alter your cookies or limit your access to other Yahoo services.
