Yahoo Groups

This page documents our current privacy practices for Yahoo Groups.

Information Collection and Use Practices

  • HTML email messages sent through Groups include web beacons.
  • Photos
    • We receive and store photos sent through Groups. If a camera includes EXIF data, that information will be included in the original images stored on our servers.
      • EXIF data is a record of the settings a digital camera used when taking a photo. EXIF data may include camera type, aperture, focal length, and location, among other settings.
    • We may use EXIF data for purposes that include displaying some EXIF data with photos, creating pages that present photos sharing characteristics such as the camera used, or personalizing your online experience.

Information Sharing and Disclosure Practices

  • The amount of information you share through Groups depends on the settings for each group.
    • Groups can be public, restricted, or private. Group owners or moderators may also customize settings to allow non-members to access content.
    • Group settings are shown on the info page for each group.
  • You will be identified with actions you take and items you add to the group.
  • Messages
    • Your email address is always included in messages you email or send through the Groups website.
    • Emails sent through the “invite” tool include the personal email address of the group owner or moderator sending the invitation.
  • Your full email address will be visible to the owner and moderator(s) of any group to which you belong.
    • Group owners may choose to give members the option to not allow their email addresses to be visible to owner and moderators. Choosing this option may limit your ability to post and take advantage of other features of the group.
  • Photos
    • By default, photo location from EXIF data is shared with your groups. You may turn off photo sharing through your membership settings for each group.

Practices Regarding Your Ability to Update or Delete Information

  • If you are a group owner, you can edit or delete any posting or member in your group. You can also completely delete your group at any time.
    • Group owners may also grant moderators the ability to edit or delete postings and members from the group.
  • You can edit your group memberships and preferences at any time. You can also delete your own messages and photos from a group.
  • You can use Yahoo Calendar to see and manage events you add to a group's calendar.
